750 miles away from any of my manuals or Diesels....a friend got the wrong oil cooler lines for a '78 240D 4-speed..so he needs to know where the engine number is stamped..and I think it's on the driver's side like below the injector line closest to the firewall. I said I would find out for sure...any help?

Yes, on the block just below the head, toward the rear on the drivers side.
