I seem to have quite a few niggles to get sorted out before the weather improves.

First, I noticed that the radiator fan has started to oxidise in places. When I had it sandblasted a couple of years they also gave it a coat of cheap paint against my instruction. I should have painted it again myself but didn't, so here we go.

Initially I thought I'd have to remove the radiator top hose to get both the fan and shroud out.

However I was able to work it out leaving the shroud in place.

I'll try to get it painted tomorrow if the weather is ok.

Next, my home made bug catcher clean up.

It didn't stop all the bugs and fluf getting into the radiator though.

Lots still to do.

Paint radiator fan
Change PS fluid
Fix PS fluid lid leak.
Oil and filter change
Change coolant
Detail the engine and engine bay
Fit new soft top

Should keep me busy for a while.

Aluminum refinishing is best done with glass beads and a distilled water spray. This way there are no impurities forced into the aluminum. Then use a matte sealer. Sandblasting forces alot of impurities into the surface at high psi. Aluminum develops white rust.
Want the ultimate? Go vapor blasting on cast parts.

The fan is actually made of magnesium but probably oxidises in a similar way. I vapour blasted most of the aluminium parts on the engine as we had a machine at work. I think I used ACF50 to protect the cam covers.

I can't remember why the fan didn't get the same treatment, probably because it was after I retired before I got round to it.

As for the here and now, the fan will get a couple of coats of 2k black tomorrow.

Oil change today and I had a choice of filters.

I opted for the MANN one as it would appear to be more free flowing. Any thoughts on that.

Job done now, and I inspected the old MANN filter, thankfully there were no signs of any debris or metal sparkles post engine rebuild.
