While searching for my car. I test drove a 2003 w211. I then test drove a 2002 W210. Both were E320's. I purscased a 2001 E430. The car has the MB feel that I was looking for. The W211 is missing that old MB feel. As far as reliability, I have no idea.:thumbsup:

I like the pre-facelifted W210 with larger "eyes". The W211 looks somewhat like a 1997 Ford Taurus.

Cheers,

I must admit I truely do like the w210 interior design, very clean and it gives you such big car feeling. I went to the car show in Nov 06 and sat in an 07 nice but not the same in that big car feeling, though the newer models look alot more sportier in my opinion. I would def get a 2000-2002 if and when I trade. Pref, one with heated seats, command unit and chrome plated rims. oh thats where I would stop, because at that point I would just get a very clean S-Class before getting a 211 and up. I truely like the S-Class models but the clean ones nothing to crazy

It's hard to generalize since every car manufacturer makes an ocassional lemon. However, I think a later-model 210 should be a better car than an early-model 211. MB has apparently improved the later 211 quite a bit, but I don't know a precise dividing year for that.

I prefer the W210. I think it is was MB's last truly distinctive looking E class model.

The 211 on up look as if MB is following the pack.
Too bad as MB used to be the one everyone tried to copy.

I passed a new C class recently and had to take a second look to even tell that it was MB.

I recently purchased a 2000 E320 AWD @65K miles and have been quite happy with it.
As a precaution, I replaced the following "Trouble Prone" items:

* MAF
* Crank Position Sensor
* Brake light switch

Trans oil/filter is next on the list.

All of these were relatively easy to replace and fairly reasonably priced from alternate (non MB) vendors.

And yes, I do use the cupholder (AKA Transmission Control Board Killer), but I place a small hand towel under it, just in case....

The car is a delight to drive and handles exceptionally for the size and weight.

Do yourself a favor and have a PPI performed on amy used MB.

Good Luck!

Interesting how guy asks about reliability and everyone comments about looks and styling.

W211 ('05 on) is by far the more reliable car.
I would guess and only guess that reliability has to be rated with a side by side comperison of regions - climate - driven conditions - the drivers them selves - shop visits - and income. Now design is a main factor because it also dictates - wieght - auro dynamics etc........

I think what the question and than the form of answers you (we) are reading says alot about how owners are very happy and conserned with the integrety of the design and exlusivity of the w210's design verses the normality of the newer models in comperison to compitiion. I have my likes and dislikes with both models. Consider this, which vehicle on the road can you say is truely reliable????????? My personal opinion its a KIA, will you trade your MB for a KIA?????? If you answer no your making your desition based on design-and design can mean design of engine - caben - or body.
