Hello,

I have a 2020 GLB with 52K miles. I was driving one day and there was a notification on the dash board that my engine was over heating and that i need to pull over and turn the car engine off. I check the thermometer gauge and the indicator was touching the red zone. So i pulled over immediately and checked the basics like coolant level, radiator fan, radiator, leaks, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. So i started the car 15 min later and the temp gauge was back to normal. Drove it to a friends house 45 mins away and notice the temp gauge would spike up and down at different speed levels between 20mph- 55mph. I ended up getting the car towed back to the house to do a little more thorough investigation. I rechecked all of the components on what can cause the engine to overheat. The fan is operational, the coolant level is normal, I removed the splash guard underneath the vehicle to check for any leaks, inspected all hoses and they were all intact. Only thing i can think of is maybe a faulty sensor or thermostat malfunction. After couple days in the garage resting, i gave the car a test drive and the car seems to be normal for the most part, there were times it will rise on the temp gauge close to 75% but will go back down to normal when the car begins to slow down or come to a stop. The only thing strange, is that there is not caution or check engine light on warning me that there is something wrong with the car. I just called the dealership and they said my warranty expired at 50K miles. Has anyone had any problems with their car behaving like this? Last thing i want to do is start order and replace parts when it could be a simple fix like a coolant flush, maybe i am missing something here. Thank you!

Welcome. What an annoying problem, the intermittent ones can be difficult to figure out.

Might be worth having a search of the archives to see if other owners had anything like this happen.

Would be great if you could complete your profile with car model and year 👍

I had the same issue couple days ago while driving from Richmond, BC Canada to Seattle WA at 65mph. Luckily It happened when I was about an hour away from home. I pulled over from I-5 and turned off the engine for over 30 mins. Then I restarted it and drove home at a low speed with emergency lights on. The coolant gauge was still frustrating up and down while I was driving home. I did some inspections the next day with my neighbor’s help. From what I see everything seems ok. I planned to take it to a workshop to check on it. I just wonder who else has the same problem.

Ridiculous, on such a young car. Hope it's something simple.

Can I recommend putting the car details into your profile some time?
