Apologies if this specific symptom has already been covered. I looked for it and couldn't find it.
I have a 2017 C43 Convertible and the top hydraulics, motor and electronics all seem fine.
The last 4 times I've tried to put it down, on three of the tries, it made it 99% of the way down and was successful only on the fourth. When it failed, it failed with the lid an inch or two away from being closed. This is the symptom I get when there are bags just too tall in the trunk so that's the first thing I checked.
I checked the luggage area -- it was empty. I made sure the luggage partition was all the way open -- it was. There was nothing restricting it. The hydraulics seem good as it was good and stiff and I had them go on my old CLK 55 AMG and I know what that feels like. When the hydraulics went on the CLK 55, it was like they lost resistance to movement and were unable to keep the partition all the way open.
When I examined the top in it's 99% down position, the driver's side was slightly higher than the passenger's side and that seemed to be what was stopping it from closing.
I opened and closed it a few times and looked closely at the top. Mind you, I was on the road and not in my driveway so I was perhaps a little rushed.
I didn't notice anything bent, torn, ripped or otherwise different on the driver's side of the top. The massive amount of ropes all seemed consistent on each side.
With the one successful attempt to put it down, that driver's side of the top made a soft "thunk" noise as it passed that last inch where it had been stopping, before, and settled into the lid closed top fully down position.
It seems to me to be an alignment issue. Before I take it in to a local shop or dealer, I wanted to ping y'all to see if you'd heard of this specific symptom and had any recommendations.
Thanks in advance.
