In my preliminary research of the 2016 S 550, I surprisingly found that the car doesnt come with a spare tire. But rather has run flats as standard equipment. My question is whether you can just swap out the run flats for conventional tires. And, if so, is there a spare and jack kit that can be purchased that will fit this car. I just really wouldnt feel comfortable taking a long trip without the benefit of having a spare in the trunk. I would appreciate any feedback anyone an provide on this subject. .

Hello djackson, I have the same question, I looked in the trunk and found a space under the coverings that looks like it could hold a spare wheel, but that is where the battery is currently. I believe I heard that Europeans hate run-flats tires and that they do have spare wheels, jacks etc. I'll let you know if we can do that here. PS new run-flats are expensive.

Thanks again for the response. Do you have an idea of what would be the best source to obtain a spare that will fir the 2015 s550 sedan?

Ok, yo DO have a 2015! :) I've been round and round with MBUSA on this subject and they insist that there is "no spare tire configuration for this car" My suggestion is to find a spare in person to see if it physically fits. I know that for me, I have the Sport Package and that includes AMG brake calipers and as a result only AMG ($$$) rims can fit on it and I guarantee that a spare won't have an AMG rim! What I ended up doing is, like everyone else, in the well under the trunk liner, I have a scissor jack, air compressor, a breaker bar with a 17mm socket on it and a tire plug kit. Worth noting: If you have the AMG lug bolts - they have a "fancier" head to them, kind of like a flower. Make sure the 17mm socket will fit on them These flower lug heads are softer than a regular cast bolt and if a mechanic uses an impact wrench on them, they can mar them and a standard socket won't fit and you will also need a flower socket like this Amazon.com: ATLIN Protective Lug Nut Socket for Mercedes Vehicles with 17mm Convex, Flower Head Lug Nuts: Automotive. Good luck!
