Hi all,

While driving on the freeway, the glass panel between the windshield and moon roof somehow got torn off... no clue how this happened. the car is hand washed regularly and I definitely would have noticed if something was sticking up that shouldn't have been (something that might cause air to get underneath & lift it up)

Service was preformed by MB for this same panel a while ago. Reason being it looked like it had really fine cracks all over it. I'm not sure if they replaced it or repaired it.

Anyone seen this before?

I think the 110+ degree weather may have weakened the glue holding it down causing it to lift up just enough for the wind to get under it and rip it off... Anyways taking it to have it serviced. Just thought I'd share!

Very sad and dangerous. It could have been a car behind your car while it was flying and it could also lead to an accident. This part of roof continues to be a problem in the C series, but unfortunately Mercedes-Benz cannot see it. There must be a worldwide recall related to this part. These photos are also from my 2016 c200d vehicle, the same part is deformed but MB says “external effect” and does not want to repair. You can also see the cracks on it.

Definitely a big issue with this panel on the roof isn’t there. I checked ours on Sunday when I was washing it and it looks to be in perfect condition. I’m definitely going to keep an eye on it for sure.

So I wonder if it’s like 2 pieces connected? Because after I got that fix glass wrapped, I do notice there’s a seam right in the middle and yours did break right down the middle too. Mine was peeling, like the black shiny coat was gone so decided to get that panel wrapped. They had to sand it down before the wrap and that’s why the seam is more visible now? I don’t know but now I’m scared...

Yes, it looks like the two pieces are connected in the middle. This explains why it was broken in the middle. This part of panoramic roof is exposed to high wind pressure as well as other atmospheric effects. The main thing to discuss is why they can't stick this piece firmly to the bottom. Or will we see other w205 cars with flying roofs in the coming years? Will these cause accidents or injuries?

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it's one long piece of acrylic. Interesting for sure why it would only break on one side and not the other...

Mercedes needs to do a recall, it's obviously defective and dangerous!

Is there a way to push for a worldwide recall ?
Maybe some news outlets would pick this up and get more publicity and pressure on MB to do a recall

You guys need to compare build dates and Vin’s and see if they are close. It could be as simple as a bad batch of glue and with summer there the are expanding and letting go.
Don’t know about the temp in Turkey but his is just peeling.

How are you able to do back-and forth with them? I always hit a wall to cover broken parts not covered under the extended warranty. They have never been accommodating with me. .. Faulty Accelerator pedal, broken sway bar link, and the latest the vacuum lines for crank to relieve the engine crank pressure because the valve actuate is faulty.

I was texting the service advisor at the local MB dealership

It does really depend on the dealership and the relationship you have with them. I had the rear 3rd brake light replaced the other day because 1 LED was out and it was f##king with my car OCD. They replaced it for nothing. A good rave and rant to head office can work.
The guys at my local MB are pretty good.
