I currently own a 2011 ML350; my lease is up in March so I'm looking at getting a 2013.

I'm torn between the ML350 and the ML550. I'd love to have a V8. But the V6 I drove is peppy (34 more hp than my current ML), $10,000 cheaper than the V8, and 2-3 mpg better, plus it will cost less to insure. If you have the 350, do you feel it's strong enough? If you have the 550, what's your experience with it?

Thanks.

I have had ml 320 from 2009, and now have ml 550 grand from 2011 and I would say that minus the more expensive gas cost, the vehicle is a much much better ride then the 320. Less problems too. Well worth the money.

Hello
I would like to tell it you live in a strong roads suck as hill and go off roading a lot the 550 would be better it much stronger and can handle these conditions better, but if you don't have there conditions the 350 is better and cheaper.

The new 550 engine has a lot to love - and should not be mistaken for earlier 430/500 V8's.

The response and torque curve on the new 550 is so linear it could be considered driving a electric engine - it pulls at any spedd from 5mph up thru 100mph - power on tap at any speed - and a V6 will never have that feeling.

The 550 is actually quite fuel efficient at highway speed with the twin turbos.

Your increased torque under acceleration gives you that "thru-the-seat-of-the-pants" feel - where the driving expereince of the V6 feels like the ML is being moved around you and you are carried inside the ML - again, that V8 feel.

Sure, you can look at the glass as $10K more than the ML350 - however the other way to look at that glass is that it is so much less than the AMG6.3 - and this year the ML550 includes the distinctive body kit that wasn't included in the up-pricing for the 500 last year.

Some say tomato, blah blah - it all depends on your budget and what you appreciate in your driving experience.

Keep the beat - and get some additional balanced experience from 550 owner's - unfortunately there were not that many built last year due to availability issues.

Keep the beat !

Newbie to BenzWorld also contemplating ML350/550 choice. After scores of domestic SUV's and current fleet of US vehicles, I welcome ongoing member thoughts and discussion regarding aforementioned post .......

Eagerly awaiting arrival of 2013 models,

Yes, the BlueTech disel has part of that torque V8 feel - if you want a ML before New Year's better pull the trigger like before next weekend on pre-order.

I've only test drive the 350 and 550, and definitely loved the extra HP on the 550. There was no BlueTec at the dealership, but I need to test drive before biting the bullet and order the 550.

While the 2013 have been showing up in dealer inventory, you're not going to find one with the new multi-contour seats. Those reportedly can't be made until the last 'decade' in September. ...and it's now too late to order one for that manufacturing slot, I'm told. I'm told there are now some slots opening in for a November build, but they are fresh out of all leather (at least for one dealer's allocation). So, it might come down to MBtex or wait until maybe December to build it.
