I will be changing my oil next month, what oil should I put inside? I'm thinking Mobil 1 0w40, what are you guys using?

The oils referred to meet both, in accordance with Daimler Sheet 229.5, requirements for the 272 engine. However is the Mobil oil recommended in the GLK Operator’s Manual (for what that’s worth) and the 0W-40 viscosity should be leaned to if living in cold climates.

Do you have any documentation on this?
because the official MB oil guidance for 229.5 list the 5W-40 VSP as a recommended oil.

The only oddity I have seen is on the VSP oils are that the TBN #'s start low & mysteriously stay pretty much flat without depletion.

& oil cost being what it is, if I can save $3.00/ qt on an oil that is clearly listed on an official document issued by MB, then what is there to lose?

I was in Walmart yesterday after work. Just for grins I visited the oil section. I picked up a bottle of Mobil 1 0W-40. On the label on the back it said the oil met M-B 229.5. Seems simple enough to me. They didn't have any 5W-40 which is what I would want here in Texas. We get cold for a few mornings. The rest of the year it is HOT!

I'm a fan of Valvoline products but oil is very much your own choice. Valvoline Syn power going in the wifes. My story of Mobil one is shortly after the merger with Exxon, M1 - a lot of race cars started leaking and smoking, new and old engines, and we all pretty much switched to other oils and the problem went away for all of us so I haven't been back to M1 since. That's just me though and my story with it. When the race car engine broke a rod after 4.5 years of service and I tore it down, the rod bearings and main bearings were like new on VR1 Racing.

Not exactly next door, but there is a dealer in Hickory. Might be less hassle than going into Charlotte.

Yeah, that dealer knows how to generate another approximately $10 per oil change in additional revenue with $0 added cost for the extra quart never used.

All those people sucking out 8.5 qt off a 4Matic & in one case 10 qt in a vehicle that calls for 7.4 qts is what? Disadvantaged.

Smart people take it to the dealer warranty service.
Ignorant people take it there for convenience & a roll of the dice.

I could give a rat's @ ss what their motives are. They don't mess with my car.

My car goes into the dealer in the morning - so they can remove the extra quart of oil they put in. The oil level's a good half inch above full. Dealers shouldn't make stupid mistakes like this.

well, doing my own, did 500 mile and the 1000 mile. Will do the 3000 mile and then let them do it at 5000 or 7000 for the service record since I have the full extended warranty. For the record, I've put in 7 quarts plus a splash from the 8th. The belly pan is a PITA to drop each time but my air ratchet does a good job of that
