My regular mechanic said my valve stem is leaking on my doughnut spare. My tire guy says it needs a special valve stem. I didn't think the spare had a TPMS system in them? Is he just mistaken? I know the four regular tires do. 2010 S 550, 134k

Well of course this could be some 2010+ thing, but I've never seen a TPMS for the space-saver spare. Also, here's a little snippet from a tire supplier that might explain what the mechanic meant?

When replacing a tire, a tire technician should always replace the valve stem to ensure there are no issues with the tire changing process. Valve stems over time will age which could cause a flat tire. The TR438 valve stem is small rubber valve stem to fit in spare tire.
