I have an error code for a temperature sensor in the DEF tank on my blue tech. My mechanic checked and the dealer wants $1200 for this sensor and has 10 of them in stock! Apparently they go bad often. Has anyone else had this issue and maybe found a more inexpensive way to deal with it?

My idea was to buy a DEF tank from a scrap yard and remove the sensor, but this is a lot of work, still cost money, and if they go bad often then I might just be buying a bad one. Anyone have experience here?:eek

Wow pricey for a sensor. What are the symptoms? ......

The only symptom has been a display message asking me to check the DEF fluid, when I added DEF the display would not disappear and still has not. The mechanic says the scan gave him a message for the bad sensor. The manual says I get only 20 starts after the def message and you do not add fluid. So far so good, but I am still wondering how to get this thing resolved at reasonable cost. Anyone know how to bypass this switch or have an idea?

There is such a thing as a blutec emulator. You can use that to disable the bluetec system. Its a cheap fix. And you dont have to worry about filling the bluetec urea.

muskie44, are you aware of the federal emissions warranty? AdBlue system certainly should qualify under emissions as it serves no other purpose: http://www.epa.gov/obd/pubs/420f09048.pdf

One would hope a dealer would know of such warranties to quickly pay for your repairs rather than drive you and many other future customers away.

Oh, and might I add I had 7 or 8 CEL's on my 2009 (under the original 50k warranty) before the dealer finally found a bad electrical connection. Got a new AdBlue injector and NOx sensor along the way. Considering how CEL immediately reappeared I don't believe either was really bad.
