Just to add to this thread, they are cross-compatible (Pre-facelift and Facelift). I bought one from a 2007 untested for $100 at my local junkyard and it worked on my 2011. Flipped the fan (So the air blows outwards, not inwards) to fix the amp issue and works like a charm.

What ? What ? and what ? Ya got 07 amp untested and all you did was reverse all cooling fans outwards in purpose of getting hot air out instead cool air in then it works every single time when audio turn on ?
If this is a true statement then German engineering is not a greatest o_Oo_Oo_O:D

Yes. As well, when H/K were still offering repairs, they were returned with the fan flipped.

The issue was dust build up over time on the inside of the module which would cause a short. The fix (after the fried/faulty chips have been replaced) was to have the fan blow outward and keep the dust away from the sensitive amp.

Just because something was German engineered doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Look at all the issues German cars face. Nothing is perfect
