Any word on the 2007 models? From what I've read here on the forums (been a bit of a lurker..), there should be an interior refresh very soon; If you were in the market for a G500/G55 today, would you hold off a couple months for the refresh?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

After all the problems associated with the "interior refresh" of the 2001/2002 time frame, I certainly would wait a year or two on this one - if it happens.

Yes i have an 02, and it had a lot of problems. If you get one i would do a 08. On the other hand i have bad luck so you could probably get a 07 and never have a problem!

I am waiting for the "refresh" and have been told it will be at the NY Auto Show in April and it will be "worth my wait" [:D]

The way I see it ... a lot of Dealer's and Ebayer's are claiming that the G is finished as of 2005 model. That rumour has kept the selling price on 2005 G's very strong. So, when it appears at the Auto Show, that will finally kill that rumour and make the 2005's drop in price ... now if the 2007 only have new DVD navigation, I plan to run out and get one of the last 2005 cheap (I still know how to use a map [;)])

If instead the 2007 is totally redone on the inside ... I will put in an order. Every article I read on MB says they are working 110% on quality ... and the 2002 electrical problems were not unique to the G. None of the current MB have problems that I have heard of. So, I figure I will take the risk with a brand new model. If I am wrong I will pull a Marco on them (he sure got a sweet deal [:p])

You're kidding, right?! Even the 2006 S-class is ranked piss-poor in quality ratings (JD Powers and Consumer Reports)...and it's in it's last year of production! Or take the new 3.5L V6 DOHC in the new SLK...consumes oil like there's no tomorrow. Or the new 7-speed auto that hesitates & clunks.

You need to surf the other MB subforums. Hell, just look at the ML forums...the new ML is not much better than the older one in quality and reliability.

Mercedes, in general, is still far from Toyota/Lexus's reliability reputation.

WAIT..!! Don't buy the current car with the 02' and on interior. The 07' is supposed to be very nice.

I have the same dilemma. I drove an 02' with little or no issues. Lucky for me, I know..!

However, now I am in the market for a new G possibly in the Fall. Remember MB have little choice but to build better product. (No need for reasons why) I can tell you DVD based systems will be in the 07'.

With this in mind, I do have very good knowledge that it is coming. One last thing, resale on the current car will probably suffer a little if it's an 06'vs 07'.

The reason I could see for waiting for an '07 has to do with the CONFIRMED arrival of the 320 CDI. The boys at my dealer in El Dorado Hills confirmed that a dressed down G with the diesel will be coming to the states. They also confirm that even if the motor isn't fully certified for California, they can still get me one through their Reno dealership the same way they bring E320 cdi's to California. They wait until the car has 7300 miles, bring it down the hill and sell it with 7501 miles on it. My father has been so enamoured with my new/old G that when his lease expires on his ML at the end of September, he has decided to purchase a G320 cdi...This is the motor everyone in our family has been waiting for when it comes to off-road vehicles.

If MB does offer the 320 CDI for the US I highly doubt it would only be 49 state legal.

From the link I posted:

"DaimlerChrysler says its Bluetec diesel technology—when used in conjunction with the low-sulfur (15 ppm versus today’s 500 ppm) diesel fuel that becomes mandatory in the U.S. on Oct. 15, 2006—will allow it to sell diesel-powered vehicles that meet vehicle emission standards in all 50 states."

That is what the dealership is telling me (the bluetec stuff). Also was told that although the vehicle is expected to be at a lower pricepoint and lack many of the goodies, MBUSA will most likely be sending a great majority of them fully loaded, so those of you who want a more "spartan" model will actually have to place orders for a specific vehicle. The guys at the dealership said they will email me all of the correspondance they have been receiving on the vehicle from headquarters shortly, so if I see anything new I'll post it on here for everyone. Preliminary "real life" estimates on fuel economy are to expect 21 to 22 mpg. Smaller diameter rim sizes will also be available. Have also been told that only a select few dealers may receive the car in order to judge market desire, so your preferred dealership may actually have to trade to get one or you might have to travel to buy one.

Great news! Typically the USA dealers are the last to know. If this info comes from a dealer I would be very encouraged on the diesel being here eventually.

You want me to put the 7500 miles on it if not Cali legal? [8D]

saigonsmuggler,

I disagree with your comment "Mercedes, in general, is still far from Toyota/Lexus's reliability reputation"

I would not sell or trade my current Army of Gwagens for a Toyota/Lexus. If that is your opinion and you feel strongly about it, why are you a Mercedes owner?

Van

Hey Van...you can still own something and recognize it's shortcomings and/or common pitfalls...no need to open a can of worms here. I think most of us here like our G's.

Van is also driving all pre-2001 G's. There is a difference.

....and the biggest difference for me was getting a G for less than half the sticker of the pre-mbusa versions. this allows for enough savings to fix an occasional bug here and there, when the warranty rus out.

Now...don't go and ASS-U-ME things! I love my G. No major problems other than window regulators. However, i said above, "IN GENERAL" in my statement. Other MB vehicles beside late model G-wagens are not so good. Just look at the other MB forums...just read the nightmare stories.

Van, no, i am not willing to trade my G for ANY vehicle. However, IF i had a C-class, E-class, etc., then YES, i may trade for a Lexus.

Honestly, this is reflected in my car collection. (See my signature.)

My 2000 G500 sold for $160,000.00. I purchased it 18 months and 22,000 miles later for $63,000. I haven't had to allow any savings to fix any bugs, even though the warranty is long gone. [;)]

we all know how much you paid and what your former owner paid for your G Dutch, it seems to come up pretty regularly. It is the one with the red seats, right?
