Hi,

Due to some @rse bashing my Left Power Folding Door Mirror in a Car Park, I need to replace the entire mirror assembly, and have a good used unit ready to be fitted.

Now I know how to do the job in my sleep :laugh

BUT my problem is this ............

The 3 bolts holding it to the door initially appeared to be small tamper proof torx like a tamper proof TX 20 size, so I grabbed a few Snap On Tamper Proof Sockets, none of which would fit in the Bolts..........

It appeared that the hole in the socket would not go over the "tamper" pin in the bolt head, so yesterday I looked at a load of Tamper Proof Torx sockets in a tool shop, and bought a cheap set which had bigger "tamper" pin holes, but none of these will fit either :frown

Bolt heads do not appear chewed at all, I doubt the Mirror has ever been removed from the Car

Is there some sort of special tool for getting these out ??

I've never seen tamper-resistant bolts there - they are normally just plain Torx bolts. T20 sounds like the right size. I'd probably just drill out the nib inside the bolt so I could use a standard Torx driver.

Actually, I've answered my own question :laugh ...........

Closer inspection, (with reading glasses and a magnifying glass :laugh ), reveals they are 5 point Tamper proof Torx

All my tamper proof Torx bits are 6 Point :frown

Snap On guy is here Thursday, and has put a set aside for me so I'll get it done then :wink

It's still very odd that they are tamper proof. I've never seen that!

Hi,

I've never seen them on any Mercedes model before either, so I just got off the phone to the Inverness MB Dealer who I have an Account with, the Parts Manager didn't know, but he is always very helpful, he went out to the Workshop and spoke to one of their Techs who said "Yeah, they are a 5 Point Tamperproof, have been for a while now" :laugh

A quick search found these at about 1/10 the the price of the Snap On set I ordered yesterday ............

When I do the job I'll post up some pix, for the other guys here, perhaps you could put it in "stickies" :wink
