Car Vehicle Speedometer Trip computer Motor vehicle

I’ve been having this random issue at least once a week now, searched all over the internet but was unable to find answers. My instrument cluster has been randomly crashing. The top section becomes red indicating something wrong, and all of the gauges get frozen and don’t react to anything I do. Everything works in the car, I just don’t get any feedback from the cluster. The only way I fix this is by reinserting the fuse responsible for the cluster. Anyone ever experience this issue? Thanks.

It’s a 2006 ML 350 with 80k miles.

You must at least read codes in Inst. Cluster with a scanner.
Thanks for the reply. I have a Carly scanner (Mercedes add-on) and the only errors I get for the IC are the following:

Event 9112 Control Module REAR SAM is not sending any data.
Event 9113 Control Module SAM-F is not sending any data.

I followed these steps and my battery/alternator appear to be fine. The only issue is the cluster messing up, it gets annoying having to reinsert the fuse here and there. I’m thinking it’s some bad sensor sending some messed up CAN signal to the cluster, causing this “glitch”.

Since the gauges actually freeze instead of going back to zero, I suspect it its just a bad cluster.

Thank you. Is it possible to replace the cluster with one on eBay? Or are they coded to the particular vehicle? I can imagine MB charging me thousands for a replacement lol.

They are coded. There are ways to install a used cluster. The way I know is to have the used cluster's odometer zeroed (probably best to find a cluster specialist who can do this), then it can be installed in the car and coded as a new cluster using SDS (Star Diagnosis).

I bought a cluster off eBay and popped it in out of curiosity. Everything works so far except the odometer, no blanking out! Do you know anyone that can zero it out & program it? The cluster only costed me 80 bucks off eBay. This would save me a ton of money.

I get the following fault now when inspecting the IC through OBD2:

912B Invalid drive authorization data

Probably related to needing to be programmed for my specific vehicle.
