All MY2006 C230s have the M272 V6 engine and 722.9 7-speed transmission. When you unplugged the transmission wiring harness, did the instrument cluster show that it was in park?

Ok pulled the plug off. And this time car started right up and ran good..
I checked shifter and dash and shifter does move but the dash indicated does show the gears .it shows the display but nothing illuminated.. so I guess this means the conductor plate is bad? Correct?
Also this must be the 722.9? because I noticed it has just a small black plug that just pulls off.I think 5 wires.
Nothing like in my 2001 slk320 it has the big round plug with the yellow lock ring..

Thanks for reply.
I figured it was.. I guess it could be worse..
So I'm going to take it out.
Would it be better to have it repaired? ( 150.00 US ) Not have to be programed.. Or buy a new one that will have to be programed Wich I can't do.. and heard it's expensive by Mercedes..

You could try asking those guys to see if they can replace the selector range sensor on the conductor plate. If they can't do it, you need to replace the plate with another unit. Pretty much only well equipped indy shops or dealerships can do it.

Here is what the repair place for these plates told me...
Ok, In that case, you need to get another used valve body and send it to us for reflashing, afterwards you need to install and run some coding and then everything should be ok. We can help you with the coding if your technician has a decent tools such as Autel, launch or xentry. We can do remote access to your car to finish up the coding. We charge $70 for reflashing

Indy? Is that a company or?
This guy said my VGS was fried . There is no way to replace it?
So I get another plate that has to be flashed then coded after install ?
Can the coding be done by a code checker Autel or other besides SDS?
This says it's Mercedes SDS or do I need something else?
Not sure exactly how all this works?

Indy is short for independent. In other words a mechanic shop that is unafflicted with any dealership.

I don't know where's the confusion. I keep saying your plate is bad. Replace it. How many times are we going to have this circular conversation?

The cheapest autel that can program a 722.9 trans costs $2400. Otherwise you need SDS and a decent knowledge of how to work it. It is not something for the faint of heart.

The confusion is I'm not a Mercedes mechanic or we wouldn't be having this conversation.. I'm on this form to learn the lingo and get experience on these cars. So when you say Indy I think of nascar.
I appreciate the info but I'm learning this stuff.
So thanks for the explanation!

As long as you're getting a virgin conductor plate and the other shop is marrying the virgin plate to your car and coding it, yes.

They said they can program it Mary it to my car just by my vin# so
I still need to have shop here program it? That's what is confusing to me..
Is adapting just another word for marrying it to my car?
And yes they said it was virgin plate..

Yes you need to take the car to the shop for them to program the conductor plate.

Adaptation, marry, program, whatever. It's all the same.

It sounds to me like they are going to SCN-code the new TCU with your VIN so all you need to do is install it and it should work "out of the box". There are adaptations that can be done to set shift points and such, but it will self-adapt to your driving style.
