Hi Everyone,
I am getting DTC P2096 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System too lean Bank 1. From what I have read about it, it seems to be caused by the brain thinking that not enough fuel is being delivered. Most common causes are vacuum leak, broken/clogged injector(s), hole in exhaust upstream of O2 sensor, failing Mass Air Flow Sensor.
I was also getting a DTC pointing to a bad O2 sensor so I replaced all 4 of them as the car has 175K miles and I figured it was time. I was getting the DTC P2096 prior to changing the O2 sensors and it remained after I changed them.
I have looked at the Short Term fuel trim and it is at 99% which as far as what I have read is a very high number. This is consistent with the DTC description in that it is adjusting the mixture to deliver more fuel.
The vehicle is a 2005 E500 4matic Wagon 175K mile on odometer.
Has anyone had this problem and solved it? I am looking for some initial direction on where to start looking.
