FWIW.......

  1. The actual valve or the connection arms?
The swirl valve is SS valve / disc spoted welded to a rod.

The OEM connections / linkage are plastic.

There are a few companies offering aftermarket metal connection linkage.

MB repair procedure is replacement of entire manifold

Regards

my external linkages (rods) on 648 engine are metal except for the socket on the connection to the servo which is plastic and disconnects there.

EGR positioner & turbo positioner can each cause intermittent soft limp mode (engine rev limiter to 3k) w/o 'check engine' light coming on also. Usually an engine shutdown/restart will reset them until another implausability is detected by CDI_3 UP control unit but a DTC will be stored there. A scanner is your best friend with these cars.

Technology brings new stuff every day.
Lately "miracle in the bottle" appear on the the market. Here is what Liqui-Moly sells in Europe. Guess what? Not sold on US market. BG makes similiar stuff, but requiring special injecting attachment. Plenty of videos on youtube
