So I was looking through the manual for the used c230 i just purchased and i found that it says that the cd magazine can actually read mp3's. however, later in the manual i read that the c230 has 6 cylinders, even though i drive an '05, which leads me to believe the dealer just swapper an '06 manual. Anyways, wondering if this capability was in the '05, i burned an mp3 cd but it wouldn't play.

if i took the mag out of an '06 and popped it into mine would it play mp3's? does the '05 have mp3 support and did i just screw up burning the cd?
do i need to forget about all this and simply get a damn aux harness??

(i know what youre thinking)

2006 and up only came with MP3 CD changers so if your car is 2005 it will not play MP3’s and swapping just the mag out of an '06 will not work for you, you need to change the entire CD changer

I have a very late 2005 model which plays mp3 cds burned from itunes ok. Looks like there must have been a point where they added the functionality. Still tempted to hook up the ipod though so id go for that

Hi guys. I know this is yeeaaarrrs later, but I am excited to be receiving my Japanese import C230K 2005 (March). I live in Botswana (Southern Africa). I just want to know what the verdict is...do they play Mp3 or not? And if not what are the best solutions? Audio CDs are rather exhausting for 2014!

Checking the USA owner's manual (you can download them at mbusa.com, "Owner's Section"), it was not documented for MY2005, but was beginning with MY2006.

Some C class cars have an input in the glovebox. It is a small plug that will accept an iPod/iPad/Android device. If it's not there, there are means to add an AUX input to the audio system. Mine is MY2002, so it will not work with mine, but it may work with your 2005. Browse the forum for AUX audio input, you may find it right here.... Good luck.

There you go, found it for you...

There are several solutions. Barry mentioned the AUX input, and that will work, but you won't have any control over the MP# player from the car. If you want a more integrated solution, there are a few options. One is the OEM iPod interface from MBZ. It connects to the radio and give you a 30-pin Apple "dock" connector that you can plug into an iPod or iPhone. The radio itself stills sees it as a "dumb" AUX connector, but the iPod song title is displayed on the MFD of the instrument cluster and you can use the steering wheel controls to select tracks and playlists. There are several aftermarket solutions as well. One I like is the mCar unit (mCAR Multimedia Interface - Home) . It can connect to an iPod, Android, or thumb drive to play MP3s. It also adds Bluetooth for hands-free phone use and streaming audio. There are others, too like the Grom interface and Viseeo (not the "puck" for the factory phone, but a complete interface). Most all of these replace the factory CD changer, using its controls for the MP3 player.
