The Battery Alternator Visit Workshp light comes sporadically. I stopped by an auto parts supplier who tested both the battery and alternator. Both tested good. I've read that this warning light is usually caused by a faulty voltage regulator. If the VR is going bad, wouldn't this show up as a faulty alternator? My 2005 C230 has 120,000 miles, original battery and alternator, the belt was replaced aprox 30,000 miles ago and looks to be in excellent condition. I don't mind replacing either the batter or alternator, but hate to if not needed. Any suggestions?

at that milage a new VR is not out of line

They don't always consistently "Test" bad @ McParts.
(The "Light" condition is Sporadic,So's the Fault)
The reason you're gonna replace it is Brush Wear,I'll bet they're down to 30% of new.(or Less)

OOOH! you're gonna scream @ the Price of a Voltage Regulator for that chassis
$175.00 U.S.D.
A New Alternator is about $340.00

i check for my 2004 c 230 kompressor and the price at the dealer for a rebuild alternator is 780 $ canadian dollars.....(for a rebuild...) new around 900$ bucks.....
