I have searched all the posts and cannot find this problem discussed.
I have a glove box door that will not stay closed.
I successfully removed the entire glove box from the car.(quite a feat for a non-DIY guy). The latch mechanism works fine. Something was rattling from inside the glove box door. I turned the glove box upside down and the metal strike that is inside the door came out along with a tiny torx screw.

Question: Can you remove the front leather fascia off the glove box door to reinstall the strike? If so, how? If not, do I have to buy an entire new glove box? There does not seem to be way to remove the door from the actual box.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello to all;
After taking the entire glove box into the dealer; they were stumped. They had never seen the strike plate fall off inside the glove box door. Mine was a first. The choice was to buy a new glove box or take it home and devise a solution.
After many hours and the use of a lot of surgical instruments, I used JB Weld to secure the latch back in place without tearing the glove box door apart.
It can be done but I do not wish it on anyone!

I recently had my glove box break down on me as well, i had removed the entire glove box from the car, managed to remove the lid from the glove box, but as you stated, it appears to be no way possible to remove the leather from the plastic backing. The bracket is rattling around inside and I can't manage to get it out. Do you have any suggestions? I'm looking everywhere and can't find any info on separating the lid apart.

I know this is an old post but here we go anyways :smile

This happened to my SL as well

I took out the glove compartment/box and also took off the lid

Any here have any idea on how to get the latch back in place?

Will i have to carefully use a Dremel and cut out a piece on the inside of the lid where the hatch/latch is supposed to sit and screw back in place the hatch/latch onto the lid?

Any help on how to this fix this problem is more than welcome :smile
