I am currently an owner of a 2001 R129 Sl500. I am trading it in for a 2003 SL55. I just wanted to clarify the power output. The SL55's in the states are 476hp and 516 ft lbs. i've also seen 493 hp. i am assuming that it is european versions. The MB USA website claims 493hp. can someone clarify. If you walk into a US MB dealership and pick up an SL55 what is the power output in your car. Thanks in advance

I think it depends in what state your in. Some states are stricter when it comes american automobile regulations. The best way to know is to go to dealership and ask.

493

The SL55 in the US will have 493 hp. The 476 hp was the factory original specs, but were to have been found to be very conservative. All the initial engines coming out were 493 + hp, so they upped the figure. Given it's performance numbers it is definately in the 490+ catagory. The E55 has the slightly de-tuned (because if different exhaust path) 469 hp.
