intercooled twin-turbo V12
590 ft/lbs @ 1,800-3,500 rpm
493hp @ 5,000 rpm

0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.8 seconds WOW [:)]

that equals the:
AMG S55
lotus esprit V8

and beats the:
honda S2000
porsche 911
jaguar XKR
acura NSX

Amazing

I've been wondering why no one says the obvious. It's amazing that such a large car can move so quickly. I don't think I've ever seen a Mercedes sedan (except Brabus, Renntech tuned) accelerate from 0-100km/h in under 5 seconds.

It's such a large improvement over the last S600 V-12 engine, yet not too many people seem to notice. 493hp Is quite a lot, but the European version has 500hp and 800nm of torque.

Does anybody know when, or if the SL600 will be comming out? If it does, won't it sort of make the SL55 AMG, seem not so special anymore?

a friend of mines father has a euro cl600, and let me tell you, it is FAST! driven m5's s500, and even the current and previous s600 W140. and this just even seems faster than the M5 or a z8, just because it's an auto and you just don't hear anything, it's like someone is pushing you at lightning speed. beautiful.

you are right, Mercedes needs to brag

4.8 is fast. not too many full size sedans can do that stock.
MB boasted about the ML55 and that was good. they should do the same with the S600.

the National Post newspaper did an article on the new $169,000 760Li. BMWs answer to the S600 and Maybach. with only 438hp and 444ft/lbs of torque the 0-60 is 5.6 seconds. the article states "it is still not quite enough to compete with the 4.8 second Mercedes S600, or even the 5.2 behemoth Maybach."

way to go benz!
