I have 03 CL500, there is no error message regarding low coolant, however under moderate acceleration when the engine is fully warmed up, or when I am in stop and go traffic, the coolant guage fluctuates from 82C to 98C-100C, then it comes back down when I go easy on accelerating, does this sound normal?

Does your coolant guage stay at a particular value? If so, what is it? Thanks.

I would not assume your engine is overheating because the temp gauge is fluctuating.

If there is not excessive heat being felt externally with a particular aroma of overheating, I would guess you have a bad temp sender.

Take it in to be checked!

My temp is always very stable.

RE: 2003 CL500 Engine Overheating?

Thanks for the response, someone with another CL confirmed their guage fluctuates also while other cars have the coolant temp dampened +/- 15 degrees C to not alert the driver, I am used to other cars with guage needles always in the middle despite wide open throttle, thats why I overreacted .
