ohlord wouldn't trade me for his wagon so i have to look elsewhere!! i am thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2002 wagon. looked at the thing today and it is like brand new (and i'm damn hard to impress). no nav or xenon's but everything else. 70,000 miles. 2 years left on a bumper to bumper warranty (no deductible) and it is transferable. brand new michelins and major service (12/07). all service records. not crazy about the gold color though, but i love the tan interior. $14K what do you think? edmunds says $13K and kbb says $19,800 (crazy) nada says $17,200 (still crazy).

$14,000 sounds fair to me and I say that primarily due to the 2 year warranty. I would check and see how many miles that includes however.

Also check where the car originated from. For some reason there seems to be a lot of East Coast/Snow Belt cars in Redondo Beach. If it was originally from outside CA, you may want to check carefully for rust, especially on the spring perches.

I paid 13,200 for ours back in April in the same condition with slightly lower mileage but no warranty. I don't have any idea what the west coast market is like compared to here but that seems like a good deal to me.

private party?

forget about options and the b to b is probably not what you think it is if like most aftermarket warranties.$12500 tops private party.If it's a used car dealer something is wrong with it.They bought it at auction for 8grand and slapped a cheap b/b on it.
private party cash talks and as always forget your impressions get it inspected.

Looks good to me. I'll differ from ohlord here - I think it's a very good price for SoCal. My only worry would be that it is too good. :confused:
By 2002 a lot of the early problems were solved, e.g. cloudy headlamp glass, improved sealing for transmission shifter module, etc. Plus you also have the control buttons on the steering wheel.:)

Options are what make the car, whats the point of buying a wagon if it has the same options as a honda civic? Navigation, Vented Seats, Bluetooth, etc are what make a car, not having these options is unfathomable once you have experienced them. Its very expensive to add these options later on, so you might as well look for a vehicle that has the options you want, as you will spend a significant amount of time inside the car.

I have a 2001 E320 waggon. Ordered thru dealer from factory because the options I wanted. Comes with GPS, Phone, command, Xeon & Multi contour front seats. Wife's car, try to match some good features I have in MY2000, S500. Paid $59K out of showroom, took 3 months for delivery. Currently 84.5K. Good car better ride than E320 sedan because of leveling features in rear wheels and heavier suspension systems in the front for higher payload. Good deal to pay $500 over Sedan factory sticker. Here are the repairs after warranty: 58.8K shift knob Bushing $64, Phone roof antenna cap $177,74. Rear window regulator 74.4K $416, rear suspension regulator valve 82K $1112. Actually, it was slow leak even in warranty period, but neglected by dealer to inspect it because they do not have too many of these to work on in my town. Only 3. But now I go to another dealer in Dallas 17 miles away, they are more experience with W210.265. Local is 7 miles from my house. I can mess with them everyday with no trouble to me. that is why I own 2 MB. Service is much better. Cost of repair since 49.8K total $1769. DFW area do not have rust problem at all in last 38 years of auto history. All electronic works good because of low humidity. Warranty period replace: rear right door sill loosed, temp sensor refrigerant, cup holder,mass air flow, rubber mount on torsion bar front. Overall very bug free car,because of 2nd last year of production. Has some pixile problem currently in time & gear display. 4 of the cell not light up out of 30, 35%of the time in warm weather or low batttery charged. Kids go to school with it everyday, short trips to markets, otherwise the engine will be even better shape. You can DIY window regulator and save $. Tranny Filter, Fluid, Spacer R/R at 84.4K. DIY battery, Mik Box Phone GSM from time port, S500 wheel, cabin & engine air filters, all brake pads. Dealer replace all fluids in: oil, brake, coolant.Never replace fuel & charcoal filter, plugs, rotors and belt. Next project: will replace fuel filter, plugs and belt at 100K.
Buy it , good car drive like new when maintain right and read this site keep you maintain it cheap. Good utility car and never drive like a Porsche, excellent spaces. Never ride like a S5000, airomatic is much better. Never have problem with my air shocks in my S500 in last 75K miles. It may be the moisture kill all guys air pump pressure sensors by the coast.

I'm not saying get a car with no options,I'm saying when pricing a w210 do not use the options it has as a pricing point.You can find fully loaded models and make a cash deal for the same price as as low option model.:thumbsup:

I think there's a price premium to be paid for this car - its a one owner car with complete service history available and a clean carfax. It looks like she took good care of it. It is a low mile car, but not too low - I always worry about cars that only get 5,000 miles a year on them because the car either sits dormant for a long time or rarely gets up to operating temperature.

If she is asking $14K she'll surely come down some. I wouldn't pay full price, but I don't know that I'd walk away if I couldn't get it for $12,500 either. You're buying a car that will last a long, long time. It is better to start that relationship with the best example you can find. Lots of wagons lead hard lives - if this one hasn't been, then it stands to reason it should last longer. Of course, a third party inspection by an MB specialist is an absolute requirement.

I think the B2B warranty (especially with no deductible) is actually quite a strong selling feature and I might be inclined to pay $500 more for a car with it, just for the peace of mind, if it is as comprehensive as you say it is. You can probably count on one broken window regulator and also replacing the MAF over the next two years (I didn't see it on the carfax) so that would break even for you (based on not doing it yourself, of course). And if your transfer case needs to be replaced (not unheard of) then you're ahead of the game.

That Price seems fair with the Warranty..as the when the items do go...Trans/A/C/Cats it will money well spent on that car with a warranty

Also The W210 Wagons do better on resale than sedans as the production numbers are a LOT lower...and since its a One older owner it has seen a soft life

Get a PPI done then make a offer on it
