When car is started, everything is OK.

When brake is pressed, defective lights message immediately appears.

Right brake light does not illuminate.

When parking lights are switched on, fuse 7 pops.

Left side parking lights OK.

Right side parking lights out.

Turn signals, hazard, reverse, low and high beams OK.

I think front parking lights and fog lights are burned out. I will replace those bulbs.

Center LED CHMSL is OK.

I am considering replacing the rear lighting and front side marker assemblies to LED units. Only the right side rear/front parking lights are affected. The left side functions as expected. The bulb carrier seems bad, but I think the problem is something else. Any suggestions would be very helpful. I did discover that the right side bulb socket is bad and the Sylvania bulb does not work; only the dealer bulb works. I confirmed that with the left side that works as expected.

Any ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated. I love the car and selling the car is not happening.

What Sylvania light are you talking about ? There are different types of stop/parking light bulbs. If you do not get the right type you can get a short circuit in the bulb socket which can blow a fuse. The correct type is 7225, if I remember right.

Notice the offset locking pin locations.

I have the Sylvania 7225. The dealer bulb is Ostram 7225. I confirmed that with a magnifying glass. I did note that the bulb needs to be secured in the carrier properly or the lights will operate incorrectly.

Osram owns Sylvania or vice versa. They are the same bulbs for all practical purposes. Incorrect insertion into the socket is the most common problem.

I do not remember the color coding for the 2002 model for the stop / park and tak tail lights. I assume white and brown are for those for your model. For my car the pink one is for the stop/park light,

In any case, if you took the front and rear park lights and the fuse pops, it sounds like a wiring short. With fuse 7 out, and key in your pocket, measure first voltage and then resistance between the rear / front right park light wiring and chassis ground to confirm a short.

This is from a wagon, but same principle.

You have a short. Unplug the rear right tail light completely and check to see if fuse pops.

The white socket is the brake/tail, the brown is the inner parking. I will get to work on the short. Thank you for your insight.

Part of the problem has been solved. Brake lights function normally. No malfunction message when brake is pressed. I made sure the bulbs were properly inserted in the carriers and I swapped the carriers L/R. Fuse 7 still pops when parking lights are activated.
