Hey Lynn, I have been watching that one on eBay also. I have an SL 500SA, but miss my Sl 600. This is a nice one, loaded, but after speaking with the dealer, he would not budge on his $52,000. price tag even with my trade. He said he may do better with a cash down payment, but not much. He also has this listed with Autotrader, where there are two others listed for $69,000 & $85,000 which justifies his asking price! This is its' third or fourth lisiting on eBay. I'm ging to pass, but go for it if you are interested.

It should be some sort of carbon stuff ... I just love this one to be honest especially the full leather trim.
I would have preferred a dark wood trim instead of that carbon but oh well...
By the way what is that lever on the right of the steering column ? Is some sort of voice activated commands stuff ?

Yes. It is a command system for the CD, radio, tape player & telephone with a separate phone book. You can change CD tracks, next CD, dial phone from phone book or name, rewind tapes, etc. I have it on mine also. The only drawback though, is that unless you have a Motorola Timeport phone activated now, you cannot get one activated to run with this system as they are not 911 compatable. In other words, they cannot be located in an emergency. My phone was activated before this went into effect. I hope it doesn't die because they will not repair it.

The newer phones such as the V60 can be retrofitted to work with a Blue Tooth "puck", but the fit costs approx. $1200. plus the phone. The good thing is the newer phones now have navigation options.

I stumbled upon the voice activation features and was blown away. I got a V60 from eBay set up for my SA last year and it works great. People don't expect the high tech features in a car that has a retro feel.

In the past I have not been a fan of the Silver Arrow until I saw this one. I did not know that the car came in a SL600 version (1 of 100). VIN wdbfa76f12f202632 Take a look at the interior. Hey Lynns - This was sold about a month ago, and has been relisted three more times! It is presently on eBay again. I've been following this one. I spoke to the dealer when it was first listed, but he wants too much for it and was not willing to budge much. The last winning bidder was $48,000 USD. Just thought you'd like to know.

48.000,00 ?? No way that's way too much at least here in Europe. Ok maybe they made very few SL 600 Silver Arrow but for that sort of money you can buy (from the book) here a 2000 SL 500 R230 and I was offered the same sort of car for about 30.000,00 from a friend of a friend of mine who is an Audi franchised dealer.
What do you think I should do ?
I'm having a look at the R230 next week but I still love my R129 sooooo much.

Advises needed here.

IMHO the R230 is a bit too bling bling, but I'd go for the SL600 twinturbo over any other model including AMG, should offer enough torque and power and the few year old models have taken a big depreciation hit by now. I wouldn't even look at a 500 or a 350 for that matter.

At the end of the day i think it's very simple - if you love the R230 vario roof you should go for it. But if you need trunk space when topless you should reconsider... Besides there's something very romantic about raindrops falling on the soft top... ;-)

There are a few publications here that list a few 2002 SL600SA's at $85,000. USD! This dealer is using this as a guide, and thinks he can get $50,000! That's why it's been for sale for so long. He is turning down offers for $45,000.

I need to apologize for my replies nto being so quick but since I have the internet down at home at the moment I cant' be quicker.
I know how romantic is our soft top and I know how good it works but since I was looking for more power and seen the shorage of "young" SL 500 in R129 form here and considering the nice deal I've been offering, I wanted to know any things I whouls be aware or afraid of in the R230 and your opinion about the R230 from someone of us that testdrove both our R129s and R230s.

We had a Greek member here earlier who bought a R230 and he seemed to be very happy. I can't remember his ID but if you do search here ("R230" from example) I believe you should be able to find him - then why not send him a personal message? I know he has been on the R230 forum, so why not try there and also ask for owner's opinions.?.. Also if I recall correct "television" changed over to a R230, and he used to have a R129...
