Recently my car upon starting has given me a problem. If I place it into drive prior to the idle settling down, it will only go into and stay in first gear. It wont shift up automatically or manually. This causes me to pull over and shut the car down, and restart, and wait.

My assumtion is the computer may need a reset, can anyone help me with this?
[the computer reset, OR, other possible causes of my problem?]

It sounds as if you are getting set into LIMP-HOME mode. Typically this can get an auto-reset if you switch off and restart. DTC 012,013, 018 and 019 might be stored in your ETC. (Electronic Transmission Control unit).

ETC is unit N15/3 located in the engine bay on r/h side alongside a fusebox.

WIS advises that this could be a loose ETC connector, or a defective output speed (rpm) sensor in the transmission. There are two rpm sensors on Y3/6, the electric control unit, that is located above the shift plate in your gearbox. Access is from beneath after removing the pan.

Best first to get your codes read.
