Can anyone tell me where the sensors are located for the coolant and washer level on my 2002 ML500? It looks like both are attached to the washer bottle but I am not sure. Both of these warning lights come on periodically and I want to replace the sensors to see if that fixes the problem. If they are located on the washer bottle as I suspect, these should be fairly easy to replace. Any help would be appreciated.

The Coolant Level Sensor is located on the back side of the Coolant Expansion Tank and it is not replaceable as it is integrated into the tank. The light will illuminate when the sensor senses any level below the MIN level in the tank. The level must be check when the eng. is cold.

Th Washer Fluid Level Sensor (part #163 860 00 21) is on the back side of the washer bottle and is difficult to remove and replace. The light will illuminate whenever it senses a fluid level of less than 1/3 capacity.

Therefore you must check the level in both tanks before replacing parts.

Thanks so much for the great reply. The washer tank level is fine but I will check the coolant level after letting the truck stand overnight. Your pictures were a great help. I will let you know what happens with this project.:)

Coolant level was low and added coolant with distilled water 50/50. Light has not come back on. Washer sensor warning light is now on continuously so I believe it is time to replace that sensor. Thanks so much for the great guidance.:)

Here are the instructions to remove the washer reservoir. You will have to remove the headlamps and the upper cross member. Do not disconnect the hood lock/cable; just fold it over with the cross member.

Also not that there are two pilot holes used to align the upper x member with the frame. Make sure they are lined up before tightening the bolts on the x member.

Please UPDATE YOUR PROFILE to include the ML.

Just curious if the low washer fluid level light is standard in all markets? My washer fluid was at zero when I got the truck and no light was showing.
