Hey all,

I am going to check out the car listed above, wagon version. The dealer says that the car runs and drives good but I want to go in prepared. They are offering the vehicle for $1500. From what I understand, if the car has been well maintained, then this could be a solid purchase! If not... well I am am looking to avoid that scenario. I can do some mechanical jobs on my own so small things are not a hassle.

Besides transmission maintenance, rust, and brakes condition, what else should I keep an eye out for? Are there any issues specific to look out for regarding this make and mileage?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Check CV joints boots and motor mounts.
I think at such purchase the transmission should be biggest concern. Get a dipstick and see the color of ATF.
You can't expect much from $1500 Mercedes (beside list of needed fixes) so good luck on the purchase.

Pay a good independent mechanic to check it out. Could save you thousands of $.

The important thing to have on any used car - but particularly an older one - is records. Records, Records, Records. And you won't get that from a dealer.

If that transmission has had regular fluid and filter changes at 40K-60K it should be fine. If the owner(s) ignored it that will be a big issue.

Then I heard-on this forum? - someone who had a 722.6 and did the first fluid/filter change at - 130K miles? And the car had 300,000 miles. So there's that. But don't count on that reliability with that little maintenance.

That would be my biggest concern, and as others said pay $100-$200 and have a shop go over it. You will probably get a good list of things to be done and then you have knowledge.

It will be the best $200 you have spent on that car.
