Bought a new SL. Air-conditionaing @ 72F and fan speed on #2 (second lowest) reveals a faint cricket like sound - lasting 2-5 seconds and coming on every 2-5 minutes coming from the airconditioning vents.<br>

Benz dealer states that that is the normal evaporator sound, kicking in. The unit is located below the dash.<br>

I drove another SL500 and it made a similar sound.<br>

Other than turning the fan speed up two notches, are there any other suggestions to mask this noise?<br>

Do ALL SL500 make this noise?

Actually, it might be a leaf in the A/C Pipes, or a loose connection of the pipes that allows air to 'whistle' over it. My dads e420 is doing this now, but he has 60,000 miles on it. So I would complain that your new car is doing this<p>cs2866-127.austin.rr.com
