I want to remove the seat base of my 2001 e320 to see why the seat heater is not working. The WIS shos a seat with knobs and handles only and mine is all electric. I cannot for the life of me find the right seat in the manual. Does anyone have picture of how to remove the front seat base (squab) so I can check the wiring?
thanks

if its possible I want to leave the seat and just remove the base. My jag has 2 clips under the base and if you unclip them the whole seat base lifts off the frame. Undo the wires and you can work on the heaters. If I have to remove the seat to remove the base I will but I cannot find anything on my style of seat in the WIS. I have the fully electric everything with no buttons or levers on the seat, its all housed in the door panel next to the door handle.
cheers

I would also like to know this and am interested in any info. My driver's seat's heater recently stopped working. Please keep updating us on the thread and if possible, it would be wonderful if you took pictures!

Best regards

You have to remove the seat. (Read the stickies; between MRBSMITH's SRS pad replacement and G-AMG's bladder replacement, it's all you need to know.)

The heaters in these things are crap. Single wire, it breaks anywhere the element is dead.

Carbon mesh replacements, like those at heatedseatkits.com, wire right in; splice to the connector from the old element. (I have one that I have yet to install...not very cold here.)

So long as you have a place to work on it, it's pretty easy to remove, then you're not working in a cramped car all twisted around.

Thanks Greg - I'll pull the seat. I'll try and remember to take some pictures too CR - especially if I remove the original and add a carbon fiber variety.

You can't really remove the original element...in their infinite wisdom, MB stitched it right into the cover. When I did mine I was going to check into whether the old one could be safely cut out, so look at that possibility when you have yours out. If not, then otherwise just put it right under the OE one.

One CAN remove the heat pad just cut the stitching on the pocket and slide the heat pad out then replace it with a W203 Heat pad as they are available separate unlike the W210
I have done several on the W210s and thats how I saved customers a lot of $

Fast way to check the heat pads is to use a OHM meter on the heat pad connector plug

Its Best to remove the seat then work on it out of the car ....first remove the seat back then remove the lower seat bottom cushion/pad

Thanks for the tip, Mark. I didn't know if the stitching was integral to the seat itself (like along the seams) and that confirms that it isn't...good to know.

Thanks for the info Mark. I have however already ordered the carbon seat heater set - cie est la vie! It seems that the crossfire has the same seats and problems and they have a write up for replacing the 4 pad heater elements with the carbon fibre ones. The only bad bit that I can see is that the bolsters are no longer heated as you can only do the centre part of the seat and the back. The general feeling on other forums is that they seem to burn out pretty fasy so the carbon fibre exchange can make sense.
I'll see what it looks like when I pull the seat once the replacement carbon fibre pads arrive. If it looks fixable I will go original with the w203 heat pad fix and put the carbon fibre one in my MGB. If not I'll stick the carbon fibre one in my e320.
I'll take pictures irrespective.
cheers
