Mods forgive me if this is redundant, but I am posting this to help others. My car with no warning would not start a couple days ago. It ran fine the day previous, with no indication of problems.
So in trouble shooting, I checked the basics, fuel air and spark. Right away I found that I couldn't hear the fuel pump cycle with the key turned on. The next thing i looked at was the fuel rail to see if there was pressure. there was not.
No fuel, so next it was to the fuse block under the seat to check the fuel pump fuse. (There is also a relay). The fuse was fine, but i don't have the tools to check a relay, or at least the knowledge. Next it was on to the fuel pump and filter/regulator. I disconnected the outlet hose of the fuel pump and drained into a Hamm's beer can. (I usually drink better, but when the benz is broke, you gotta leave room in the budget):beerchugr: and turn the key on to cycle the pump. No fuel was pumped out.
That bit of info suggested 2 things to my brain. 1. the pump is bad, meaning $100+ bucks for replacement or 2. the fuel pump relay was bad. Naturally I grabbed a $20 relay first. And,.... THE RELAY WAS THE PROBLEM.
So instead of a costly fix, it was a simple plug and play part on the cheap. To make things even better my local Indie let be try the relay before I bought it. WHO DOES THAT WITH ELECTRICAL PARTS ESCPECIALLY?!! BIG THANKS TO THEM.
I wanna thank Benzworld for helping me troubleshoot things on my car. The wealth of info here is crucial to keeping repair bills down.
I hope this helps someone out there.
