2000 ML55. 97,500. Started running intermittently rough about 6 months ago; often lurched at idle especially when cold but often when warm. Accelerator pedal often feels "slow" to rev up and engine seems slow to rev down.

MAF reflaced (2nd time) in July.
Plugs and wires replaced in July. Minor improvement. Still rough idle.

Car became increasingly worse until the drivers side Catalytic Converter blew, literally, 4 weeks ago and began rattling. I reved the car and it backfired through the drivers tail pipe.

Replaced the convertor and both O2 sensors today; Bosch sensors and Benchmark converter.

Car started and ran smooth for about 1/2 hour. Pulled into a parking lot and the engine started lurching; put it into park and the tach was swinging from 600 to 800 to 500, etc.

Driving home was smoother but the accelerator still feels "retarded".

Strange, intermittant problem

NO CODES. The card was at York's Automotive 4 weeks ago right after the convertor blew. No codes of any type which concerns me about taking it back to them - they're great mechanics when codes are available. I could really use some forum advice before I commence the part swapping routine.

WHERE did you purchase the two (2) mass airflow sensors?

Were they INSERTS or the ENTIRE sensor replacement?

I hope 'online' is not a coded reference to 'Ebay'?

Please state which online retailer you purchased part from.
