There is more information. See post #4 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1532684-2000-s430-instrument-cluster.html

As you will be able to see, there was both an extended warranty (10 years from initial date of service) on all cars, and a recall that applied to only some (by VIN). You are probably past the extended warranty date, but could possibly be under the recall. If neither, you're looking at as much to replace the cluster as you paid for the car.

To avoid that, check the last entry under "Instrument Cluster" in the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia at the top of this forum. There are ways to get it repaired at much lower cost than replacement.

First, welcome to the forum.

Take a trip through the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia sticky at the top of the W220 forum. You will find problem areas and many solutions discussed there. The best place to start in your particular case is the the buying advice at the bottom of the encyclopedia.

Don't let it scare you; you will likely not experience all of the problems, but without doubt you will see some of them. Hopefully, you'll have a feel for what to tackle yourself, and when to go to a dealer or good MB certified independent.
