I have a 2000 S500 with just a tad over 75K and the dash cluster is blinking and flickering... help! What are my options?

Recall

There is a recall that begins June 10 on this:

Here is what it says:

For S Class
NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 06V028000

Component: INTERIOR LIGHTING

Details: ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTAINS GAUGES AND INDICATORS THAT MUST BE ILLUMINATED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION.

Consequence: DUE TO INADEQUATE ILLUMINATION, THE DRIVER WILL BE UNABLE TO READ THE GAUGES AND INDICATORS, SUCH AS THE SPEEDOMETER, WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULES. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JUNE 10, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES-BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372.

Units Potentially Affected: 36911

Recall Initiated By: ODI
Date added to NHTSA datbase: 02/02/2006
Internal use: 2/2/2006

----------------------------------------------------------
And here’s a copy of the DOT letter mandating the light cluster recall: http://199.79.180.162/prepos/files/Artemis/Public/Recalls/2006/V/RCAK-06V028-9264.PDF

Thanks for this information. I called Mercedes and they updated my information so that if my car is affected (they couldn't define what that means), that Mercedes would contact me. Do you know how I can get my car in the "affected group?" By the way... thanks for this information.
Thanks

Do they use different manufacturers for the cluster and the parts? Sometimes it's it's the same parts, but a different manufacturer that's affected.

Interesting question: I will let you know if/when I hear from them after June 10.
