Weird electrical gremlins continue with this car........the BAS ESP light used to illuminate in key position 2 and now it does not at all anymore. As expected, the 'ESP OFF' button does not work either. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?

All of your problems might be related (fuel/BAS,etc).. Have you inspected the under the hood fuse box, AAM, ECU for corrosion /bad connections ???

No CEL?
I would still scan for any saved codes and post here, for starters.

Yea no CEL......I’ll scan it with STAR and see what I come back with.....just haven’t had the opportunity to

Would a CEL generate in this scenario?

That’s what I’m starting to think....any pointers on where specifically to look? Are there specific connectors that have proved troublesome on the W163s?

My point is that if there is no CEL and you are showing symptoms, you still need to scan for any saved codes (and erase as needed).
No CEL does not mean there are necessarily no error codes. Many can be pending and still not triggering a CEL.

Good you can scan with STAR or a similar quality scanner. Anyone owing these older w163s (and is looking to DIY or requiring forum assistance NEEDS to own one of these basic tools - like a wrench and hammer for home use).

Ml's are notorious for sunroof drains clogging up and dumping water all over the place.. I had to replace my passenger foot well fuse box when I first got mine.. On the 320, the AAM and ECU are underneath the #1 fuse box under the hood.. It's a rat's nest of wires and connectors in there.. The roof drains, run down both sides of the A pillars.. When clogged, you'll get water all up under the dash on the far sides.. Your drains may not be clogged now, but at some time in that's car life .. I bet money on they were.. Pretty much, you've got to pull every connector on the front of the car, inspect and clean/repair..

You must scan all modules but specifically look for code C1200 and or C1207 in the ESP control Mod.

That's why I have marked as a reminder in my mobile calendar a regular reminder (every 2-3 months) to check/test the sunroof drains and cowel too (as well as turn on the 'low range'). Seen still keep hearing about the some old...

Spot on here! So when I first got this car there was water coming from every drain (it seemed like) so the carpets were pretty wet, passenger side fuse box destroyed, etc. I pulled up the carpets, cleaned and them and let them dry. Also replaced the passenger side fuse box as well. I'm wondering if I connected something improperly which is causing my issue?? Funny thing is when I got the car the BAS ESP light illuminated on the dash......

Sorry for the delay everyone, I recently bought a fixer upper house and that has consumed most of my time so I haven't been able to spend some time on the ML. Anyhow, I was able to get it on STAR and here's what I found.......

I would doubt that the Yaw Rate Sensor and Lateral Acceleration Sensor, etc would all go bad at once?

This may be a dumb question, but while using the HHT mode of the MB Star did you try to clear the codes? If so did they return immediately?

Definitely not a dumb question............but yes I tried to clear the codes but I get some error message. I'll give it another shot because I'm not recalling exactly what it says when I try and clear it.
