My ml has had a driveline noise for over a year now and has finally got to a point where I put it on my hoist and had my wife run it up to about 70kph while I checked underneath with a stethoscope and the hanger bearing was quiet but I was getting the howl from the transfercase rear output shaft bearing area. Has anyone had this problem? I checked with our local MB dealer where I was the shop foreman 13 yrs. ago and they don't show a replacable bearing, just the complete rear cover. Same with the repair info, only shows seal replacement or complete unit. I hope the bearing is available from an outside supplier because it's coming apart tomorrow.
If some has done this please let me know.
Thanks.

I have '99 ML320 with 194Kmi and have that noise for the last 100K mi.
No one can locate it.
In the mean time i replaced center bearing support for rear drive shaft.
Good luck.

Here is a cross section thanks to Wolfgang
Wolfgang's ML Page: M-Class Transfer Case
Looks like a ball bearing plus at least one shaft seal are needed. You might be able to find a rebuild kit online or, alternately, the bearing probably has a manufactures stamp and part number on it which can be used for replacement purposes.

Also, check the Startek info and see if MB part numbers are shown.
