Hi,

I just wanted to call upon the collective experience of the site members to determine a fair price, for a 2000 Mercedes E320, in what appears to be in excellent condition. It has 99,000 mi., nice wheels and tires.

I appreciate any feedback from you all. Thanks.

without seeing the car or checking for maintenance issues, I would say $4800 to 5800 bucks cash.. A super clean car with excellent maintenance history will of course bring more. I personally bought a 2001 E320 in march of this year with 96000 miles for 6400 and in july I purchased a 2001 E320 wagon with 104000 miles for 5800. I paid cash for both of them, and I serviced both of them right away which set me back about 800.00 with minor repairs. Maybe not relevant but everyone may have different opinions and it will make a difference if you are being financed... My two cents !:dunno:
Food for thought, check the catalytic converters, $1500 bucks for a set of those... at most shops anyway. I hope this helps in some way or another.. good luck with your purchase.

The best 3rd party site for used car value is edmunds.com under their "appraise your car" feature.

"Clean" condition - "outstanding" condition is reserved for garage kept ultra-low milage cars.

That said - about $5500 as long as before you buy it you get a MB indie to give it a Pre Purchase Inspection - that will be your very BEST $250 investment ever.

A PPI takes about 2 1/2 hrs, and a good indie can tell you all the good, and any not-so-good/bad, so you will really know what to expect from your intended purchase.

You have Star Motors right there, Calle Perfecto sort of behind the Coach House, so your action plan is up to you.

Thanks Def, Fab, and Bor. I appreciate the info. I don't know what the 2000 E320's are actually selling for in California, but the asking prices on the low mileage cars looks to be 8k-10k. This one seems in pristine condition, asking price $8400. I agreee with inspection regardless, even if it is a hassle, I could be sorry later if not done. Thanks again for your input!

I sold my 7 years old wagon with this mileage for around $9k in San Francisco area
But that was 4 years ago. Did those cars gain values lately?
I've seen members in snow belt buying those models for couple thousands.

That sounds about right.

When I went looking for my wagon a while back they all went for about $1500 more than a sedan and finding a 02 wagon with 75k for less that 12k was impossible.

Working from that point every year older the value dropped about 1k as did every additional 25k of miles. It was funny how that worked!

$1K per 25K miles depreciation is not bad at all. The last time I checked, Ferrari Enzo's blue book value dropped $50 for every mile put on it. If you see an Enzo with 20000 miles, it's worth nothing. Enzo's owner is supposed to keep the car garaged all the time.

I wouldn't pay any more than $7500. When that baby hits 130k and is 14 years old, she'll probably not fetch much more than $4k. The lower you buy it, the closer you'll be to the rock-bottom price. Good luck!

It took me a while to find my wagon and in that time I ran into a lot of one and two owner 01 and 02 sedans. You need to pay an extra 1.5K for the better cars with lower miles.

Looking back .....I should have bought one of the first cars I ran into -- 02 w/60k just over 10k - the car was perfect and should have been 11k+.

I was never so lucky to find cars as cheap as some here say you can find them.

This spring, I paid $10k for our '02 special edition with 78k on her.

I did have do have some PDR work done on the trunk lid, and I replaced and reshot the rear bumper and center impact strip.... and had the interior woodgrain redone... ;)

So...my $11,500 2002 E320!

This fall I bought a 2000 E320 wagon with 69,000-ish on it for $10,500. Pristine, garage kept car.

Thats the kind of prices I ran into.

The 02 w/60 was perfect and needed nothing -- it even had new tires and brakes. It was a nice car.

My 02 wagon was at 70k -- plus a MB warranty until next May or 100k.

I think you guys are paying to much.
Mind you I bought my 1996 2 years ago for $5500, and book was $7500. The market took a major hit, and book value is useless right now. Take book and subtract 25%+ and it's still too high. (wagons and diesel prices are a whole different game)

I've had mine for sale lately and am about ready to drop the price to $4k, which is still more than others out here. They are sold quite commonly here from $2500-3500. Pristine might get $5000.
I just can't seem to bring myself to drop the price to that $3000 point. Yet since this car has been trouble since the day I've had it, I'm about ready to have the fool thing parted out so no one else gets stuck with this lemon.
I've got to face it. A Ford would have been a better choice over this model, and I'm told it was a better year by rights, and it went downhill further from the 1996 models.

Sorry guys, but lets not get all emotional and possessive about these cars. I love the ride, and despise the costly repairs (even doing them myself).

The problem is financing. Folks can't get financing for older cars so unless they have cash on hand (few) or home equity lines (even fewer), the average buyer is driven toward financing a new purchase.

Once the psychological 10 year / 100k barrier is broken the prices start to drop off on any make. The number of people willing to buy/ drive cars in that range decreases dramatically.

If you are trying to get a decent car for two maybe three years and 30K worth of milage. Eight years and 70K is what everybody wants. So the 2000's are already too old.

That seems to me to be on the high side but you can check edmonds.com for a good ball park. It might be worth if if a PPI shows no needed repairs/deferred maintenance and the car comes with complete service records. A Carfax report would be a good idea too.
