hello

A relatively simple task here--but, it pays to check in with the seasoned pros...

Cleaning out the oil pan and (of course) replacing the gasket. Pelican sent the

M-B gasket, and sealant is needed:

1) which sealant is preferred, and

2) thoroughly clean pan, edges, etc., and dry, then add a bead of sealant,

(surrounding bolt holes with bead), set gasket, then--add the other bead on

top right away, or, let it set for twenty or so minutes, then add final bead...?

3) Other than these two clarifications, if something else comes to mind

(e.g., is there a magnet to collect particulate matter in the pan?)--anything

else to look for while I've got the pan off...sensors to replace, etc.

thank you!

do no tight the bolts too much ! if you will do so you will bend (deform) the oil pan on its rim and gasket will no longer be functional. I do not know the torque for bolts but i can look for it.

update for bolts torque:

M6 bolts 11 Nm
M8 bolts 25 Nm
M10 bolts 40 Nm

this is for oil sump ... i assume you mean it. oil pan is evidently the thing above it (according to alldaty.diy).

The only part I can think of while the oil pan is of would be to change the oil sender temp unit ( probably wrong name for it ) , that is only accessible with the pan of ,if yours has never been removed check it while you there .
I don't mean the oil pressure Sender ,its the other one with the single pin not twin ( I cant remember the correct name for it right now ).
It's connected to the little wire that hangs on the outside next to the alternator down the bottom of the engine ,it is a plug that slides of & on to make function & is gold/y/bronze in colour .
As already mentioned ,it is crucial to tighten the gaskets nuts & bolts at a specific torque for all nuts ,a Torque wrench is required to have best result with that .

The plug you see below should be it , behind that inside the oil pan .

i forgot to tell you that you should check the contacting surface of the oil sump before putting it back. use a good ruler or something straight with light behind it. If this surface is not even then you should buy a new oil sump or you will invest a lot of time in order to make it flat. if bolts were tighten too much in the past then it may happen that the oil sump is deformed (like mine).
