Ok guys, it has to go. I will offer it up here before advertising locally. I would love to have someone who really appreciates this truck to have it. Besides I am not sure I could stand to see it around town. I am asking $39,000 OBO.

The details:

1999 G500
Europa Import
Black with black leather
60K miles

This has got to be the ultimate G-wagen. Beautiful, strong and incredibly fast without the electronics of the MBUSA versions of 2002 and on.

I am the third owner and I bought this truck two years ago from a fellow in LA who was moving up to a G55. It has always been garaged and we don’t use salt on Anchorage streets in the winter. I am selling because I need to liquidate some assets and simplify my life. I am looking to go back to a 460 and hopefully a diesel so I can put two years of bio diesel fanaticism into reality. I will consider a 460 as a partial trade. I cannot live without a G-wagen in the garage.

It has had its complete 50K service and all fluids were replaced and synthetics put in the appropriate spots. It is mechanically flawless.

The body shows a few scratches on the roof from trees and a small dent in the right rear quarter panel up high. There is no rust or other body damage. The left front fender flare has a small crack where it joins up with the mud flap.

The interior is very clean with gorgeous black leather on the seats and door panels. There is a factory rubber “mud mat in the back cargo area. The carpet flap which covers the battery compartment is slightly damaged by a nervous border collie chewing on the edge of it. Tool kit/first aid kit is unused. The windows are very darkly tinted from its California days.

Wheels are the standard 18 alloys (the spare matches and had never been used). There are two sets of tyres – blizzaks for the winter and Dueler HT for the summer.

The copilot’s lumbar seat button is going south and should be replaced. The keys are a bit weird and probably a new one should be bought. I tried twice but the local dealer screwed it up twice so I have given up – Europa will be able to get it. One key can open the doors but will not start the motor. The other will start the motor but not open the doors. Weird, eh?

Since I have owned it:
 New optima battery
Rebuilt the Front and rear diff lock system with all new parts/fluid etc
Replaced front bumper with a tow pin bumper like that found on the earlier 463’s. the tranny cooler is moved back about three inches and mounted under the radiator.
Full 50K service to include tranny flush and fill, new spark plugs, wires, lube, etc etc.

The truck is located in Anchorage Alaska and shipping to LA (as an example) is $1500-$2000.

If you want, you can also purchase a Europa reciever hitch ($500) and a set (4) of good (but not perfect) 16" rims ($700).

I’ll post more pics and the full ad on the Clubgwagen site as soon as I can.

The tow pin front bumper is a nice addition. That's something i'd like to do because it's totally stock but gets a little more strength for a fender bender. Did you just decide not to re-install the end caps on it?

My lumbar seat button is apparently flying south with yours... perhaps on their way to costa rica... must be somewhat common to go bad.

But the real reason i'm writing is because I'm very very tempted to take you up on the 16's. THis is the MB Atik 16's correct? No physical damage? just scratches? Maybe we can chat about it at the same time if you want me to check out the Sunnyvale truck.

It's a pricey little buggar - US$71.57 from Santa Fe in June 2003. Current price in Europe is €67,86. P/N is A.463.820.02.10.

I replaced mine a while back, but you can jury rig a fix by wrapping a small wire around the switch directly up and over the middle rocker point.

Thomas,

Well, you may be right but it will simplify my financial situation so I can put more money into my house which will make my wife happy and that is a definate plus. I will also travel a bit more slowly through life which is not a bad thing at all.

making the missus happy definitely simplies ones life... unless she loves those heated seats in the current truck...

i guess that's how the world is all about choices... honey, you get an SVO converted 460 and a new kitchen... or heated seats.

Yeah, she does like those heated seats but not as much as my daughter who loves the rear heated seats. But my wife was actually sad to see the old 460SWB go as she loved to drive it. She wants a SWB eventually so maybe I will sell her SAAB and we can be a two G household. She is pretty easy to keep happy - as long as I keep working on the house and don't spend too much money!

New asking price of $38,000 and photos

I have some exterior photos posted at this link

http://homepage.mac.com/alaskagwagen/PhotoAlbum1.html

I will get some interior photos soon. Sorry the vehicle was wet but it decided to rain all day!

I am also lowering the asking price to $38,000. I forgot to mention before that it has a brand new windshield and also has an integrated radar detector.

Wow, a great deal for a 99 G500. I wish we were at the point to move at this time. We are selling our 86 280GE (softly) at this time in hopes of getting our retirement home. After that (3-4 months) then we are looking for a 99-00 G500. It looks great and I am certain you will have no trouble selling it.

Take care

Slightly OT

I was at a Taco Bell yesterday and I saw this beautiful new G55 K AMG parked next to the entrance. It was the same color of cl65blackdemon's G.

The owner was leaving the Taco Bell and saw me and my G500. He said, "nice car." I told him how I thought his car was absolutly fantastic - all that power. He then said, "yes it sure is. But now I have to eat at Taco Bell to afford the gas, the payments and keep the wife happy."

OUCH!!! [:0] [^] [:D]

Yes, I have them still but I have a potential buyer who has first dibs if he buys the truck. If not, I'll let you know.

These wheels are the 320G version.

These wheels are same as found on all the later 463 trucks (g320 etc).

my apologies... (i'm assuming i'm the fellow who had "dibs") i did in fact manage to pick up a set locally from a fellow this last weekend so i'm taken care of. Thanks for keeping me in mind. Did you end up purchasing the 300GD i checked out? Or find one to your liking?

Hi Erik,

No I think I knew you were getting some locally. I have another buyer who is thinking about taking the whole truck too[:)] I am not counting my chickens yet though.

No the 300GD went for a better offer - 15K. Amazing. After you looked at it I was was willing to pay 11K tops. Oh well. Maybe I 'll get a 280 GE and convert it after all. Thanks for helping out. If you see any 300GDs for sale - flag it down and get me the info! There is no chance I'll find one up here.

good looking truck. I would love a imported one with all the electrical problems i have had. But from the stand point of money for those of us with usa models its hard to justify $38-40K for a 98-99 model like yours with low miles when dealers are killing us on the 02-03. The last offer on mine 02 with 36K miles was $40K :(

However on the other side there are a lot of people that want the imported ones!

(this post applies to "troubled" trucks and as such doesn't apply to the folks who've had pleasant trouble free ownership of their 2002+ trucks)

well... if you owned or bought a "troubled" truck that was out of warranttee (such that you didn't get an extended warranttee or the owner didn't regorously work with the dealer to resolve the reliability issues while under warranttee) you could just as well pay more for a 98-2000 model than a 2002 and still make your money back in less than 1 year based on the reports here.

I like so much your truck.Congratulations!!! I love this interior , not the one after 2002.

Unfortunately here in Brazil we cant import used cars. This will be a dream , pay less for a car that is the same.

I had to sell my paints to bye a new one last month.

I hope you will find a^460 in good conditions.

regards

Zé
