Hello benzworld, I am new here and actually found this site looking for a answer to my current problem. I accidentally broke the cup holder in my E430. After reading the post in this forum, I found that it was actually easy to replace. However, all of them mention that you should collapse the cup holder before removing. But my cup holder broke when it was out and now it can go back down (collapse). Can you please advise me on how I should remove it. Thank you

The whole supholder unit comes out of the cubbyhole.

It generally "clips" into the rear side of the cubbyhole with a tab on that side.

After being in there for many years that clip gets kindof stuck, you can spray a bit of water or silicone on it to aid removal, once you get it out (or if you were looking at a replacement cupholder) how it's held in there is straightforward.

Keep the faith !

Beware that there is expensive computer module under the shifter, so water might not be the best to use there.
The locking tabs are on back side of the insert close to the top, so I can imagine needle nose pliers can pull it broken, or not.

Thanks for all the advice. Yes, it does come loose but the problem is actually taking it out of the center console where it is completely detached from the center console, so I will be able to put a new cup holder in.

When it is loose, if I remember correctly you tilt the front/dash side of the holder down, and it lifts up from the back, then you clear it up and out.

Good luck !
