Hi, I have a 1999 e320 and the brake lights don’t turn on when brake pedal is pressed, but the middle brake light does. Please help.

Hello:).

First check the fuse for the brake lights at the driver's side of the dashboard. The fuse panel is under a lid at the side of the dashboard where it faces the door.

In that case, you have a short somewhere in one of the brake light wires. The Illumination Control Module detects a short and removes voltage to the brake lights. Make sure you have installed the correct brake bulbs (type 7225) and correctly installed into the bulb sockets. Remove them one at a time and check if the remaining bulb lights up when the brake pedal is pressed. Have you done anything prior that may have caused this problem (like changing the bulbs) ?

Flow: battery, ignition, brake light switch, taillight

so check backwards: check for voltage at the taillight when brake is pressed. be sure you have the correct, twin filament bulb. check continuity of the bulb filaments. don't just look - use DVM volt meter
