I am in the process of buying a 1999 E300D and I have the original window sticker for the car. Listed under Standard Features/Comfort and Convenience is "Leather Seating Inserts". Does that mean all similar cars produced around this time frame have leather?

The car also has a $1325 option listed as "#208 Grey Leather".

What is the difference between leather inserts and the extra cost leather option?

Thanks.

My 02 wagon has leather inserts. It is just leather in the middle where your rear end sits and your back rests. Rest is MB Tex, which is almost as tough, from what I have been told.

I found this in reference to a 1999 C Class car:

"Leather seating inserts are standard; full leather, which covers the seats entirely and is used on the door panels is an option."

"Thank you for your recent internet query.

Leather inserts refer to leather on the seating surfaces of the seats, with MB-Tex material elsewhere.

The premium leather upholstery, available as an option on some models, refers to premium leather on all seat surfaces including head restraints and front seatbacks plus gathered door trim inserts and door armrests, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. We are researching availability of leather/leather seating inserts on the 1999 ML-Class models, however, leather or leather seating inserts were available on all other models in 1999.

If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372)."
