Hi

The starter motor in my C240 is squeaking a little when you first turn her on. Ive been to an auto electrician who said they may be bushes which is not an expensive repair. But Ive been quoted 4 hours for labour which includes remove and install.

Ive checked under the car, it does seem in an awkward position, but do you think 4 hours labour is excessive?

You have to raise the engine to get the starter out, then you have to remove the solenoid and disassemble the starter. So yes, four hours seems about right.

Given that, however -- since you aren't doing the labor -- I'd be inclined to just buy a new (rebuilt) starter. That way you get all new bearings and brushes, and a warranty. Do the math and see if that matters to you; I'd say R&R on the starter is perhaps 1.5 hours, so that extra 2.5 hours pays a good deal of the cost of the starter.

Good luck.
