Hello all,

After a cold snap, (-35c), I had to boost my vehicle (1998 ML320) with a power pack. It turned over, the engine started, then immediately stopped. If I hold the key in position 2 for a second, the car will not attempt to turn over at all, however if I immediately turn the key after inserting it will start strong then die immediately. The red light indicator in between the low range and fog light button does not blink at all, which leads me to believe the DAS or AAM is at fault here. I am 150 km away from the nearest dealership, which translates in to a very expensive tow before they even begin to troubleshoot my problem. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should check for?

Has anyone tried a key recoder? are they Legit?
Has anyone tried the bluelink mail-in re-chip service?
Unfortunately, I am unable to add the links.

I currently have 2 pending faults:
P0400- EGR FLOW
P0700- Transmision control system

I didn't think that these pending faults would immediately stop the engine, or prevent it from turning over but I could be wrong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You have an early ml if you attempted a jump (I realize it is with power pack) and you hooked up to the battery with key in the ignition, chances you burnt one of the components that you already mentioned. the immobilizing coil is another to look at.

To all members when jumping:
Key out.
Hook up.
Key in and start.
No start key out check connections.
Repeat.

The steps above could save you from a head ache.

I used a Type S from Costco works great except when the human error of not recharging it creeps in!
We have that missing gene factor with a couple of our neighbours who borrow this and other rechargeable devices (for gardening....)
We now have a little sticker on them (....please re-charge after use for others in need.) :)

Thanks for a good starting point. I will review these threads when I get home. I just have the one key unfortunately.

Acquire one of those portable heat packs. Remove the P-shaped panel to the right of your steering column. (D-shaped from MY2001.) Apply the heat pack to the black rectangular immo box attached to the steering column. Wait one minute to thaw out the immo circuit board. Turn the key to position 3 (this is the part when you pray).

If OP is at home, yes, use hair dryer. I thought he was stranded in a cold snap 150 km away.
