Any thoughts on this car?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERFECT-5-100-Mile-1998-S600-V12-Lorinser-Package_W0QQitemZ4629907078QQcategoryZ6336QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It may have too few miles.

After my experience with the 35000 mile 1999 600 this past week, I'm a bit nervous when I see a low odometer. Also, I'd greatly prefer a more stock car.

I ran the vin. The car's had 2 owners. The present owner bought it in 2002. It's amazing that a car can have two seperate owners, both of whom practically never drove it.

Unfortunately, the car is too far away for me to inspect personally. I don't feel comfortable buying sight unseen long distance, but still, does anyone know a mechanic in Waldwick, New Jersey who could do an inspection? If the car is legit, it could be the closest to new 600 anywhere and would be worth investigating.

Thanks,
qcar

That car has facinatingly low miliage...but has had many hands on her! Consider the elaborate stereo system; the wood instrument cluster plate. I just don't like a car that has had the wiring worked over by a stereo installer. Especially a car as complexed as a 600. The miles are too low...and with two owners and all the stereo work...I'd run from the car very quickly.[:)]

I dont know if id run. I mean the stereo is a fairly clean setup and being McIntosh, best money can buy. The interior is NEW. Its just a bit fishy again for the 2 owners, these upgrades and never to be driven!?

No spare, but maybe he has run flat tyres. Regardless, she's a beauty all right. The guy really wants $55k for it. Maybe the right price for the right person looking for a V12. Personally, I'd stay clear of the 12 bangers.

In my opinion this car appears to be genuine. It looks like it was a showcar (at Auto shows) and then the owner took off the Lorinser 20's and put those largely out of place stock rims on either because of the Lorinser rims were sold or the tyres had worn out and the owner found them too costly to replace. All the tell-tale signs of the car having heavy usage are negative. Nothing looks out of place and I believe it is genuine. However it does appear that the seller is trying to not spend any more money on it because it is not expensive and it is very easy to get that rear bumper sprayed. It will not look out of place with the spray as the rest of the car looks great. So I'd say its a money saving seller who demands the highest price but is not paying attention to the minor details that someone like yourself looks for in these sophisticated machines.
I think the sound system has not been taken out because the interior has been modified to accomodate it, or it is just too much work (I'd go with the former). Therefore it stays. The rims were taken off, either to generate money or to save on new tyres/rim refurbishment. In all honesty the seller must know how ridiculous the car looks with a full 'beefy' Lorinser bodykit and the stock rims that give it a 'joke' appearance as they are styled for different completely purposes. The car will look AMAZING with chrome Lorinser 20 inch 'flat face' (cannot remember name) rims or Carlsson rims (again don't remember name but they look like AMG monos a little).
I sincerely doubt that the car has any major problems as it looks so well kept and the extensive electrical modifications just give me a feeling that it has not got or had any major electrical problems up to the date of install (I don't know when that was but Im guessing not more than a year?). It looks like a fantastic car but I do not think it is worth $55,000. If it had immaculate Lorinser rims with newish tyres and no silly marks on the body (rear bumper particularly) then it may be worth considering. I must admit for that money you can pick up a w220 S600 here in England so to me it seems like the seller wants double what would be payable here. I believe you could pick up a S73 for that money. However, I am not too familiar with US pricing.
Everything I have said above is my opinion and a 'gut feeling' that I got from viewing the pictures only. I do not expect others to have the same opinion as a matter of course. It is what I would feel if I was thinking about the purchase.
The only thing is the cost seems high. The car itself is great. With 20 inch Lorinser/Carlsson rims it will steal the show on the road

By the way here is my uncle's new W221 S600,
I will buy one like it in around 4/5 years. Mind blowing. THAT is all that I can say

Interesting car. Did the Lorinser bidy kit include the side indicators?

The Carfax report seems to be clean, I just ran it, I’d be all over this baby if i had the money, this is a one of kind 140, I might be able to say, absolutely one of kind, and if I am looking at this car to make it a daily driver, I would pass for someone buying it to treat it right, making it a show queen, I hate to be the one committing the sin of putting more mileage on such a piece of art.

Most probably this is the 3rd lowest mileage 140 in the world (first two are 140s in Mercedes museum in Stuttgart.)

During my search for a 99 Grand Edition, I came across one on Ebay (many of you may remember this), with only 948 miles on it!! It was owned by a bank and obviously never driven! They wanted something like $45,000 for it and I didn't want to spend that much. But that has to be the 3rd lowest mile W140 in existance if it is still under 5,000....

Also, what W140 models are in the Benz museum?

That thing is insane! I dunno about driving it every day can you even put stuff in the boot? But what a cool car. In another thred there was a talk about the way the v12 logos are placed in line with the window sills these ae I wounder if there are regional variations.

I have been doing that recently. Bidding on cheap W140's. And I actually can fulfill the bids I place on them. $1K for a W140? DONE.[:D]

Man... NZ Benz, you are right... If only.

Bayhas, didn't you get your W140 for around $4K-$6K or something?

I am kinda interested in getting another W140 for that cheap.
