I would like to replace my stock wheels/tires (16 inchers) on my 1997 SL500 with larger AMG 18" wheels. Will AMG 255x40x18x8.5 fronts and 285x35x18x9.5 backs fit? The offsets are 25mm on the front and 28mm on the back.

I've seen some posts that indicate if the wheels/tires are not sized properly the car will think the tires are slipping and go into "limp home" mode. Yikes, I don't want to experience this!

Also, are there any sensors on my stock wheels that will need to be moved to the new wheels?

Thanks,
Darryl

Its too close for me to tell without test fitting. The width and offsets look good on the wheel but the tires may be a hair too wide. You'd really need to test fit.

Your 97 SL500 doesn't have TPMS sensors in the stock wheels so you won't have any sensors to re-install.

If they fit, you shouldn't have any problems with a limp mode either. The overall diameter of the new tires is within 1/4" of the factory tires.

Fitment of larger tires and rims 1997 SL500

Any earlier post asked: I would like to replace my stock wheels/tires (16 inchers) on my 1997 SL500 with larger AMG 18" wheels. Will AMG 255x40x18x8.5 fronts and 285x35x18x9.5 backs fit? The offsets are 25mm on the front and 28mm on the back.

DID THIS TIRE AND RIM PACKAGE WORK ON THE CAR AND WERE THE RIMS STAGGERED?
