Well, I took the plunge and bought a 97 SWB S320. Not what I was looking for, but it was so nice, I had to get it. After 3 failed attempts at 98 and 99 LWB S320s, I figured I better get the nicest car I had seen yet. My question is; is there anything unique to the 97 models that makes it inferior to a 98 or 99 ? Everything works, interior is like new, and all original paint. Few details to deal with, but it will be near perfect, amazing for a 146k car. Any opinions about about a 97 ?

Chris,

Welcome to the forum,

I would kill to have a 97,98, or 99. I like the 722.6 transmission over the 722.3-722.5. I'm personally rebuilding my 722.5 right now.

Recommendations:

1)Change all your fluids and filters

2)The most important repair for all owners is the heater tee on the fire-wall, and only buy it from the dealer, so you get a fresh one(NO aftermarket ones!!), and have the dealer look-up the right one by your VIN. Read this thread.

3)I would change the thermostat too.

Best of luck,

Martin

Don't worry about missing out on anything you should be happy you don't have any of the five problems, and also 97 was the year side srs airbags were standard. 98-99 was the same configuration because of the w220. Also post pics!

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the input. I know all too well about the dreaded t-hose at the firewall, so that will be getting done asap.
