I have a 1996 sl 320 with about 60,000 miles. During the past 2 weeks twice after the car was turned off it would not start again until about 15 minutes later. Battery is nearly new and the engine spins over fine but it won't fire. I checked all fuses for ignition and injection and they are ok. Plenty of gas in the tank. I'm thinking crank position sensor but once running I noticed a dash light at idle indicating a brake malfunction which goes out once the car is underway. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks... Bill

fixed...

You are correct #22 is the Crank Sensor, problem was the key. When I swapped the remote Key housing I may have damaged something, anyway...with the new $30 (remoteless) key it started right up. But the shortly after the first key started working again....so...maybe its the module behind the key?

Starting problem

If it does eventually start. Try the fuel accumulator. It was the problem with my 91 500, it acts like a back flow valve. If it isn't functioning properly the fuel pressure will be released, hence hard to start.

My car eventually started after about 20 trys. Still ended up being the contacts in the module for the switch. I took it apart and adjusted the contacts and WOALA.
